Don't Put Your Car Away Yet Outing | October 29, 2012
written by Terence McKillen - Oct 29, 2012

On Sunday, October 29, Chris and Colin Pillar organised this year’s official end of season fall colours/brass ball outing which drew participation from 20 cars, including 12 TR6s, 3 Spitfires, a TR3 and a TR8 with a couple of non-Triumphs also participating. The convoy headed north on Winston Churchill from Meadowvale in 6 degree temperatures and overcast skies to Terra Cotta and then east on King Street to the village of Cheltenham and then through Boston Mills and past the Cheltenham ‘Badlands’ to a well-deserved coffee and pit stop at Belfountain.

From Belfountain the route took us along the Forks of the Credit Road to McLaren Road with a brief stop at the Provincial Park overlook before heading north to Alton and a lunch stop at the mill cafeteria.

From Belfountain onwards the weather changed bringing a mixture of rain and sleet which set in for the rest of the day but did provide our cars with a proper dose of British weather!

Early Fall Colours Run | September 29, 2012
written by Terence McKillen - Sep 29, 2012

A small group of TTC members set out on a half-day early fall colours drive along the Oakville Moraine north through the quiet back roads of the Sixteen Mile Creek headwaters and crossing over the Niagara Escarpment at Limehouse on to Ballinafad and then south through the Silver Creek Conservation area, including some dirt roads, to Glen Williams, where we stopped for refreshments.

Like the British car industry, the British pub in Glen Williams, the Copper Kettle, was closed but we were able to relax and talk about cars over coffee, across the street, at the Glen Oven Cafe.

Our route continued south on Heritage Road and on to Mississauga Road at Meadowvale. Approximately 105 km were covered in dry, sunny but coolish weather. Having brought the drive forward by 24 hours in order to avoid torrential rain on the Sunday predicted by our weatherman (David Sims), the following day was actually a better day with the fall colours showing off nicely in bright sunshine. However, we were rewarded with some beautiful fall colours, especially as we travelled to the north.

We had a TR250 (Dave Sims), a Mk1 GT6 (Garth Saddler), a Mk2 GT6+ (Dave Copping), a TR6 (Andre de Goeij) and a late Mk1 Stag (Terence McKillen).

Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee | Vintage Car Show, Mississauga | 27 July 2012
written by Terence McKillen - Jul 27, 2012

Following the TTC’s participation at the Canadian International Auto Show in February 2012, the City of Mississauga approached the club to see if a British car show could be staged at Celebration Square as part of the City’s celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Approximately 20 Triumphs and a like number of MGs and miscellaneous classic British cars turned out for the evening event with two Stags, two Spitfires, a TR8, two TR4s, a TR250 and 11 or 12 TR6s present.

Canadian Invasion Classic - Finger Lakes | June 22-25, 2012
written by Terence McKillen - Jun 22, 2012

In 2007, TTC held a Round the Lake (Ontario) trip to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the club which was organized by Robin and Ria Searle. Two years ago, in June 2010,  a repeat of that trip was held and then in 2011 we went Around Georgian Bay. The latter trips were organised by Clive Huizinga  These three or four day events have been well supported by club members, usually with 30 or so cars participating.

In keeping with the spirit of the previous events, Clive and Jacquelynne together with Alex and Sharon McLeod (Ottawa Valley Triumph Club), undertook the organisation of a trip to the Finger Lakes area of upper New York State. In celebration of the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812, it was called the Canadian Invasion Classic.   33 cars and 64 members participated in the trip over the 4 days. The first day involved driving to the hotel destination in Bath. Two days were spent in the  Finger Lakes area and one day for the return drive.

As well as being a driving trip, it was also designated the Canadian Classic event for the year.

On the Saturday we took in some lovely driving roads, including a visit to the Curtis museum in Hammondsport and then on to Pen Yan where there is the Windmill craft market . Then on up to Geneva for lunch and the Classic Car Show on the lake front. Then we wound our way back for a dinner cruise on the Esperanza Rose on Lake Keuka.

On the Sunday, a visit was made to the Corning Glass Museum in Corning before heading over to Watkins Glen to the International Raceway where the highlight of the day was completing three laps of the race course before heading to the infield for the awards banquet.

Summer BBQ | June 19, 2012
written by Terence McKillen - Jun 19, 2012

The TTC annual BBQ was held again this year at Oakville’s Coronation Park with a turnout of about 35 cars and even more members. As usual, the food was cooked by Jack Willekes and Brian Clark, with preparation, salads and accoutrements by their wives and other club members.

President Tush supplied some amazing ice-cream treats for dessert!

The weather was great, the cars looked awesome and the BBQ was satisfying. Thanks to everyone involved and to those who drove a fair few miles to be there. Special mention to Gord Linkletter who brought his gorgeous Jaguar XK120 from Guelph/Waterlo.

33rd Annual Vintage Racing Festival | June 17, 2012
written by Terence McKillen - Jun 17, 2012

The feature for this year’s Canadian Historic Grand Prix at the newly named Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (formerly Mosport) was the “American Sportscar” the Chevrolet Corvette. There was some great vintage racing action as we participated in the annual Field of Dreams Car show held on the infield on corner 8. As usual, the highlight of the day was the noon “Dream Laps” by the car show participants. Proceeds from the laps went to the Wounded Warriors of Canada.

Spring Fling | May 25-27, 2012
written by Terence McKillen - May 25, 2012

Each year, the Toronto Triumph Club and the MG Car Club of Toronto alternate hosting the annual Spring Fling Event. This has become a tradition with both Clubs and is one of the first events of the driving season where we get to share our love of LBCs and have some friendly rivalry with the “other” marque. This year, the MG Club hosted the event at the Fern Resort in Orillia.
